I have been fortunate to have exceptional mentors throughout my academic career. Robert Bjork and Harold Kelley were instrumental mentors during my undergraduate years at UCLA and the year I took off to work as a “lab rat” before graduate school. Phoebe Ellsworth and Amos Tversky were wonderful and dedicated graduate mentors at Stanford University. As a junior faculty member at the University of Washington, Tony Greenwald and John Miyamoto played a major role in my continued scholarly and professional development. At the University of Michigan, Patricia Gurin and James Jackson were role models for balancing research, teaching, and administration.
